Apple Mint, also known as "Wooly Mint" and "Pineapple Mint," resembles Spearmint, with the addition of a light layer of down on its stems and leaves, which makes it look fuzzy.

Availability

Apple Mint is available year round.

Purchasing

When buying fresh Apple Mint, the leaves should be dark green on top and a lighter grey-green underneath with no yellow or brown spots. Dried Apple Mint leaves will be more faded, but should still retain a little green color.

Storage

Fresh Apple Mint will last about a 7 days refrigerated. It can also be wrapped in foil and plastic and frozen for several months, with little loss of flavor.

Culinary Uses

Apple Mint tastes like spearmint, with a hint of a "tart apple." Apple Mint is the basis for jelly, a condiment and often used with lamb recipes.
