The Burgundy or Bourgogne Truffle (Tuber uncinatum) is a close relative of the Summer Black Truffle and is found across Europe, from October 1 to December 31.

The Black Burgundy Truffle is a black Truffle with big, pointy warts. The Glebe (the interior flesh) is a chocolate brown color.

Black Burgundy Truffles don’t have the magnificent scent of the Royals (Black Perigord Truffles & White Italian Truffles) but are a good economic alternative.

Though they are more expensive, shop for Black Burgundy Truffles at a reputable merchant like Urbani to make sure that you get what you pay for.

Roughly $25 an ounce for a solid chocolate taste and a Truffle called the “Second-Best Truffle in France” (after the Black Perigord Truffle) can be considered a bargain.
