Blueberries were an early staple in the diets of American and Alaskan Indians, and is now considered a symbol of the American heritage.

Blueberries have a sweet-to-tart flavor when they are ripe. The riper the berry the sweeter it tastes. The dusty film on blueberry skin, called a "Bloom", forms a natural waterproofing and helps protect the berries from them from the sun.

Season

Blueberries season starts in April and goes into September.

Availability

Blueberries are available year round.

Cultivation

Although there are many varieties grown, high bush and low bush blueberries are the most common. High bush plants produce larger berries, while low bush plants usually produce smaller berries.
