Caraway is Sweet and Tangy.

Availability

Caraway is available year round.

Purchasing

When buying fresh Caraway, the leaves should be dark green on top and a lighter green underneath with no yellow or brown spots.  Dried Caraway Seeds will be more faded, and will be a yellow color.

Storage

Fresh Caraway will last about a week refrigerated. It can also be wrapped in foil and plastic and frozen for several months with little loss of flavor.

Culinary Uses

Caraway is used as a flavoring in BreadsCheeses, and alcoholic drinks. You will see it used in a lot of Central European foods, which is where Caraway likes to grow.

Although we only see the Caraway Seed being used in the kitchen, the root (somewhat like Parsnips) and the Fruit are also edible.
