Walter Knott, came across an abandoned berry field that had the remnants of very sad-looking and deteriorating cranberry plants. He gathered up the tired withering plants and took them home. Mr. Knott nurtured the ailing plants until they once again produced quality berries. Marketing the berries at his fruit stand in 1935, Knott called them "boysenberries" in honor of their original grower. The very famous Knott's Berry Farm located in Buena Park, California, draws year round tourists who love to taste the numerous berry treats it offers.

Boysenberries are similar in appearance to blackberries, but are larger in size and are more reddish-brown in color. Boysenberries are sweeter and juicier than blackberries.
