The Leghorn Chicken is classified as a Mediterranean Chicken and is used mostly for producing white Eggs.

The Northeastern U.S. prefers brown-shelled eggs, and strains of brown egg-laying Leghorn Chickens have been developed to serve this New England market.

Production

In fact, the white Leghorn Chicken (single comb) is the Chicken used most often in the commercial production of table eggs in the US because they lay an average of 300 eggs a year.
