The Plumcot is a 50% cross between a Plum and an Apricot. It is a new unique hybrid fruit (science calls them “interspecifics”) that has characteristics of both its parents but isn’t really either one. More than 100 years ago, Luther Burbank, a horticulturalist, bred the first Plumcot the old fashioned way, but his invention didn’t take off. Floyd Zaiger evangelized about the fruit and dis some further work on it too, including making Pluots and Apriums

Because it is a 50/50 mix, Plumcots can range from burgundy colored fruits with red flesh to golden skinned fruits with bright yellow flesh. The payoff is really in the sweetness (sweeter than either parent) and the perfect acid/sugar balance.
