A Coupe Soup Bowl can be 6 to 9 inches in diameter and is essentially a shallow soup bowl without a "Lip" (we all incorrectly call it a "Rim") surrounding the "Well" of the bowl which holds the food. If you look at one side-on it resembles the shape of a contact lens.

Coupe Soup Bowls stem from the Eastern culinary tradition and come in a variety of sizes and are made from a variety of materials. They are designated as being only for casual use and should not be part of a by-the-book stickler's formal place setting.

Culinary Uses

Coupe Bowls do not have a Lip / Rim and are known as a more casual type of Tableware. Still, they can be used to serve a Cereals, Porridge, Soups, Salads, Desserts, etc.
