Ramekins, also spelled ramequins, are glazed, ceramic, or glass, serving bowls used for the preparation and serving of various food dishes. The word is from the French “ramequin.”

Ramekins typically come in sizes ranging from 1.7 to 8.5 fluid ounces (50-250 ml) with rounded fluted sides, and can also be found in decorative or novelty shapes.

Ramekins are built to handle high temperatures. They are used in Mis en Place to hold prepped ingredients and in cooking to bake dishes like Crème Anglaise or French Onion Soup. Crème Brûlée can be torched to caramelize the surface sugar in ramekins.

Ramekins can also be used to serve side dishes, garnishes or condiments.
