The Dessert Plate, at 7 to 9 inches in diameter are a smaller plate in the place setting. They are used to hold single, smaller dessert portions. Because they are for Dessert they are often well decorated, and sweet looking themselves. Some china makers call Dessert Plates "Luncheon Plates."

Culinary Uses

Dessert Plates are used in both formal and informal settings, where they are designed to hold individual portions of Dessert. Dessert Plates can be served at table, used to hold a passed Dessert, or stacked by a communal Dessert as the sweets are parceled out.
