Refrigerators tend to be coldest at the top where the blower motor injects cold air, and because heat rises, at the bottom where the air intakes aid cooling.

The in-between area will be a blended temperature. The more full your refrigerator, without causing crowding and inhibiting air flow, the easier your refrigerator will work and the colder it will run.

Specific refrigerators have specific cooling patterns that can be mapped to more perfectly hold your foods. Smart Kitchen covers Mapping Your Refrigerator in Advanced Food Preparation.
