Dietary minerals are the chemical elements essential to nutrition.

Since our bodies cannot manufacture minerals on their own, we are dependent on a healthy and balanced diet in order to maintain good mineral balance. Minerals are composed of two classes: major elements and trace elements.  Major elements include calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, iodine and potassium.  Trace elements include copper, cobalt, manganese, fluorine and zinc.
