Oregon Black Truffle are commonly found in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest is the Oregon Black Truffle (Leucangium Carthusianum, formerly Picoa carthusiana), which is larger (golf ball-sized) but otherwise appears very similar to the Black Perigord Truffle.

The major difference is in their respective perfumes. The Oregon Black Truffle has an earthy scent but with sweeter, fruity notes of mango. The sweetness has intriguing possibilities for use in desserts. The species is very variable where one batch can be fabulous and the next bland.

Season

The Oregon Black Truffle, which is in season from September to March, is less common than the Oregon White Truffle.
